Escapes and Pleasures
Escapes and Pleasures
Of Gods and Men ****
If religion plays an important part in your life (a note to SDS readers of this blog), then I encourage you to find and see this small film.
But you don’t have to be religious to enjoy it.
Based on a true story, these monks have to decide whether to leave or stay as massacres and increasing violence by Islamic fundamentalists threaten foreigners, including themselves.
I suspect not everyone will love this movie, but the three of us who saw it the other night definitely found it moving and worthy.
In French, with subtitles, tho most of the film is easily understood without needing to read the subtitles nor have the ability to speak French.

War Horse ****
I saw it a week ago and was fascinated by the puppetry and artistry of the staging, lighting, production, etc. And I am not one who generally likes puppetry.
Stephen Speilberg will be bringing War Horse to the movie theaters later this year. Perhaps without puppetry, the film will be quite different than the play?

ONE FILM, ONE PLAY - BOTH WORTH SEEING
